Concern for man at railway line sparks police incident in Motherwell and train disruption

CONCERN for a man at a railway line sparked a police incident this morning.

Officers raced to a stretch of the track in Motherwell after the alarm was raised at 8.19am this morning.

National Rail warned customers they could face delays amid the incident.

In a statement, they said: “The police are dealing with an incident in the Motherwell area, resulting in disruption to trains between Glasgow Central and Carstairs.

“Trains may be delayed or cancelled until approximately 11:15.”

But the incident was resolved with the man taken to safety.

Train bosses later added: “Following the police dealing with an incident in the Motherwell area, trains between Glasgow Central and Carstairs are returning to normal.”

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Motherwell at 8.19am this morning following concerns for the welfare of a man.

“Officers attended, and the man was taken to a place of safety.”
