WB Properties applied to North Lanarkshire Council seeking permission for two detached homes on the site off Bonkle Road.
The pair of six-bedroomed, two storey properties would each have detached garages in their back gardens, while the development would require some work to create level ground.
However council officers opposed the application, recommending refusal on the basis that the development did not satisfy any of the policy requirements for building on a green belt site, nor were there any factors which would justify it.
Additionally the location is within a wildlife corridor which would be negatively impacted by the development and associated earthworks, which meant the proposal contravened several local policies.
A total of seven objections were received from the public, who complained about potential loss of privacy, that the new houses would tower over neighbouring bungalows, which would be out of character for the area and result in loss of sunlight, the effect on local wildlife which includes birds, deer and small animals and obstruction for dog walkers.
It was also mentioned that Scottish Ministers had previously refused an application to build housing on the same site.
North Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee agreed with their officers’ recommendations and the application was unanimously refused.
