Covid staffing shortage disrupts Lanarkshire bus travel

Covid is disrupting bus travel for Lanarkshire locals as staff shortages hit services with temporary cancellations on three routes.

Service operator First Bus announced that coronavirus is affecting travel due to an increase in the number of drivers having to self-isolate.

A spokesperson said: “We’re doing absolutely everything possible to make sure that we’re running as many journeys as we can for our customers in very challenging circumstances.

“We’re keeping our customer service channels continually up to date with any short-notice cancellations so that passengers can be kept fully informed.

“We advise customers to check our website and Twitter feeds regularly, or call our customer service team on 0345 646 0707 for the very latest service information.”

First Bus confirmed the temporary cancellations in Lanarkshire, where the three affected routes are:

■ Route 240: Overtown – Glasgow via Wishaw, Motherwell, and Bellshill
■ Route 241: Cleland – North Motherwell, Watling Street
■ Route 266: Shotts/Newmains to Hamilton

The company has apologised for any disruption to cause passengers.

First Bus added: “We advise customers to regularly check our service updates page which has up-to-date information on short-notice journey cancellations for Lanarkshire.”
