A DOG has drowned after falling through ice at a Scots park.
The pet died in the water near the River Calder at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell yesterday.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene at around 4.18pm.
Specialist water rescue teams were deployed by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service but the dog could not be saved.
The dog was removed from the water after it lost its life.

One heartbroken Facebook user said the horror incident was “the saddest thing” they’ve ever seen as they urged dog owners to keep their pets on a lead.
An emotional post read: “My heart goes out to the family of Ted the dog who drowned today at Strathclyde Park.
“Honestly the saddest thing I’ve ever seen!
“If you have dogs and your near water please keep them on the lead as you never know what can happen.”
Area Commander Stephen Wright, Local Senior Officer for North Lanarkshire, said: “We were alerted at 4.18pm on Thursday, February 11 to reports of a dog in the water near the River Calder, at Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell.
“Operations Control mobilised specialist water rescue resources to the scene.
“One dog was removed from the water, who sadly passed away.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected.”
