Donations galore as Advertiser Toy Appeal comes to a close

A mass of donations to the Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal this week looks set to ensure another bumper year all round.

In the last few days we have taken deliveries of literally hundreds of toys and gifts from individuals and organisations across the West of Scotland and all in aid of South Lanarkshire’s neediest families.

Starting off the week was Blantyre Old Parish Church, who once again donated over 40 bags of presents.

Then we had four crates of goodies donated by Asda Hamilton, in particular their colleagues in the George clothing department who each put away £5 a month and purchased bargains galore in store all year.

Then we received a fantastic donation of toys from the young lads and parents of Blantyre Vics Youth Football Club 2007s, before also taking in over 100 toys from the staff at Bank of Scotland’s Hamilton, Larkhall and Motherwell branches. We also had huge support again from Ferring Therapeutics in East Kilbride, Montessori Nursery in Bothwell, St John’s Church, Hamilton Grammar, and Mecca Bingo at the Hamilton Retail Park.

Connect Recruitment Agency in Hamilton also came on board with a bumper donation.

The gifts are now in quarantine, ready to be picked up by South Lanarkshire Council’s team of hardworking social work staff.

They will then distribute a bag full of toys, gifts and sweets to every parent/carer on their lists in time for them to wrap up for Christmas day.

We also supply every family with Sellotape, wrapping paper, gift bags and batteries for the gifts.

Advertiser editor Robert Mitchell said: “The donations have been rolling in and we are so grateful for the support received this year again.

“The people of Lanarkshire never fail to impress with their kindness and it really does help those in need come Christmas day.

“It’s lovely that we’re also able to give gifts to other local agencies who help and support disadvantaged children in their communities. We can only do this thanks to unwavering support we receive every year from our fantastic readers.”
