Dough to go: Plans submitted for pizza vending machine

A Motherwell convenience store has lodged plans to have a pizza vending machine installed outside its premises.

If given the go-ahead the nifty piece of kit will be situated outside the Spar store, 27 Leven Street, in the town’s North Lodge area.

The planning application to North Lanarkshire Council states: “Covid-19 has brought a change to retail with people having to order online and wait out with premises to order their takeaway meals.

“Our clients wish to install a pizza Vending machine to cater to the public outside their premises at 27 Leven Street, Motherwell.

“This has been a direct result of restrictions put in place on retailers during this busy period. This machine will help us with the resilience of the business going forward.”

The ‘Smart Pizza machine’ will allow users to order in advance online or at the machine through contactless payment system.

If passed, the vending machine will be placed outside on land that was previously used for washing machines.
