Man arrested after ‘chasing police cars with machete’ on quiet Motherwell street

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly chasing police cars with a ‘machete’ on a quiet housing estate.

Cops raced to the scene on Watson Street in Motherwell at around 11pm on Sunday night after the 26-year-old was reportedly spotted with a bladed weapon.

Three police cars, a van and a riot van were all on site.

The Daily Record reports that the man had run towards the cop vehicles with a machete.

There were no reported injuries.

He was arrested and charged in relation to the incident.

And was expected to appear in Hamilton Sheriff Court today.

Cops confirm that enquiries are currently ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “At around 11pm on Sunday, 1 May, police were called to a report of a man with a bladed weapon in the Watson Street area of Motherwell.

“A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident and was expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 3 May, 2022.
