Organised by University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, the event emphasised the importance of supporting carers and promoting the new strategy, which is designed to positively impact the lives of North Lanarkshire carers.

The conference was attended by more than 100 delegates, including carers, care providers, and health and social care representatives.

Conference attendees also had the opportunity to hear first-hand from adult and young carers on the daily challenges faced in their lives.

Morag Dendy, Chief Officer for planning, University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: “We are thrilled to have launched this new strategy, which represents a significant commitment to supporting carers in North Lanarkshire.

“Having worked closely with carers to develop the strategy, we believe that this strategy will make a real difference to the lives of carers, and we look forward to working with our partners to deliver its objectives.”

The day featured a range of keynote speakers and panel discussions focusing on the key themes of the new strategy. These include improving carer well-being, increasing access to support services and promoting carer recognition and empowerment.

Morris Howat, service manager, University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: “Carers are the backbone of our society, providing care and support.

“Our new strategy is a truly collaborative piece of work; it was written in partnership with carers for carers. Its key message is that is that we are committed to ensuring that carers receive the support they need to thrive.”.

Colin Smith, North Lanarkshire Carers Together added: “Carers are often invisible, but their experiences are just as important as those of the people they care for.

“We need to prioritise their well-being and provide them with the support they need to cope with their caring role.”
