Photography club in Lanarkshire returns for the new season to hear of national federation successes

Colin Cameron, Motherwell Photographic Society Club President, welcomed members to the opening night of the 2023-2024 season.

This was an informal evening that gave members the opportunity to catch up with each other and also introduce new members to the club.

A collection of members’ prints was on display and Brian Saberton presented an audio-visual show of last season’s digital image competition images.

The club were delighted to hear that three of the members had images accepted for the Scottish Photographic Federation Annual Portfolio. Monochrome print “Father’s Love” by William Graham was awarded top marks of 15 out of 15.

Also accepted for the portfolio were digital images “Time to Clock Off” by William Graham, “It’s Anyone’s Race” by Linda Greenhill and “Island of Dreams” by Rodger Shearer.

An excellent result for the club was having eight out of the twelve images submitted accepted for Glasgow District Photographic Union’s Digital Portfolio.

In the monochrome section the accepted images were “Father’s Love” by William Graham, which scored 20 out of 20, “Barbara and Billy” by Linda Greenhill and “Futurama” by Dominic Smith. In the colour section “Eyes on the Prize” by Dominic Smith and “Very Rock n Roll” by Linda Greenhill were accepted for the portfolio and in the nature section “Buff Tailed Bumblebee Feeding” by Dominic Smith, “Hobby” by Rodger Shearer and “Red Squirrel Reflection” by Linda Greenhill were accepted.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday evening (September 14) when club member Rodger Shearer will give a presentation titled; “Faroe Islands”. Rodger will share images from his recent trip to the islands.

Thursday, September 14 is also the hand-in deadline for the first digital image competition of the season. Images should be sent to Competition Secretary Wilson Murray via WeTransfer or brought along on the night on a USB stick to be transferred digitally.

Motherwell Photographic Society meets on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre, Stevenston Street, Holytown, ML1 4RG. Anyone with an interest in photography, no matter their level, is welcome to attend.
