Led by director Mark Traynor, this talented group of young performers is set to bring the enchanting world of The Wizard of Oz to life on stage.

On June 13 and 14, the main hall of Calderhead High School will be transformed into the magical land of Oz in its first school show in nearly in 15 years.

The young performers have dedicated countless hours of rehearsals, honing their skills and bringing their characters to life.

This unique adaptation of the beloved musical has been tailored to showcase the remarkable abilities of the young cast.

Audiences can expect an unforgettable experience as they witness the previously untapped talent of the young performers from Shotts and the surrounding villages of Allanton, Harthill and Hartwood.

Chairperson Margaret McSeveney said: “An important part of Spotlight Shotts’ mission is to work with schools and young people in the area to foster interest in arts and culture, and to help them identify potential career paths in the arts like stage management, lighting and sound engineering.

Spotlight Shotts is a voluntary organisation formed in 2023 by a group of local residents who want people from Shotts and the surrounding villages to be able participate in, and experience the best theatre, music and art possible.

They aim to do this by providing transport to events or attractions outside Shotts or by bringing productions to Shotts.

The long-term goal is to restore the purpose-built Henderson Theatre in Shotts Community Centre, to its former glory of the 80s and 90s when it was a popular stop on the Scottish touring circuit for theatre, music, puppetry and storytelling.
