A FIRST time mum won a body-building competition just SIX MONTHS after giving birth to her son.
Adele MacGillivray, 27, wanted to prove to mums how far you can push your body after having a child.
The mum told the Sun she was a keen gym-goer before having her son Axiel, and wanted to meet her personal targets after.
She said: “The thing that motivated me was that when I set myself a goal, I will not shy away from it. Because I started training for the competition, I didn’t want to let myself down.”
She gave birth to Axiel, on February 27 and just five weeks later she was back lifting weights and battling hormones to get into shape.
The mental health nurse from Motherwell in Scotland, was training from 4.30am and following a strict diet regime while breastfeeding her newbown.
She had to stick to a strict diet and routine six days a week, whilst being a full-time mum.
But her regime was not without its struggles.
She said: “What affected my training was the mindset more than anything.
“I had to get up every day at 4am because that was the only time I could get childcare. My husband watched the baby until 6am when he started work.
“At the beginning Axiel was hardly sleeping which was difficult, he was up every hour.
“The hunger was also the worst. Not being able to eat much while breast feeding was hard. The lowest amount of calories I was on was 800, and before that was 1,000.
“On top of this I was doing an hour and a half of cardio and an hour of weight training daily. I had to get my body fat percentage low before competing, and managed to get down to eight per cent body fat which is really low for a female.”
I’m a mum of 7 after trying for another baby and having quintuplets – now they’re 1 & crawling it’s a madhouse
It all paid off last month when Adele competed in a FitXpo bodybuilding competition in Dartford and won first place in the bikini category.
She then went on to the British finals a week later, where she finished third in the country.
She added: “I have shown I can be a good mum and still keep going with my passions.
“I think it is important for mums to still be able to pursue their dreams no matter how many children they have.
“It’s the best feeling in the world being able to show what you can do straight after giving birth and proving people wrong.”
“With the way fitness is going nowadays it proves even the impossible can be achieved and sets the tone for the future mums out there.
“My wee boy was there at one of the shows. We got some photos, and it’s a memory he’s always going to have.”
She plans to keep competing, after a bulk phase to grow her legs and glutes.

She said: “It will be tough but the new born phase was definitely the worst for getting on stage. He had colic and was constantly sick.
